Overview on the Flight with Gideon*

At the Airport
The "Bay Tour" starts from (and ends at) the San Carlos Airport. We will get the plane from West Valley Flying Club.

At the Plane
Before we start, we will preflight the plane to make sure everything is as it should be. I will also show you how to get in and out of the plane and how to use the seat belts (that are similar to those in cars).

The airplane is loud with the engine running, so we will wear headsets with boom microphones to cut out the engine sound, and to communicate with each other. The intercom system works by voice activation. The microphone has to be fairly close to the lips to activate.

You will hear a lot of radio chatter on the headset. Feel free to talk, nothing you say will be transmitted outside the plane. If the radio gets too busy, I will use the intercom to isolate the conversations, so you could continue talking without blocking important transmissions.

Once in the plane, we will start the engine, get the current weather conditions, and call for a taxi clearance and a "Bay tour". Before we take off, I'll run the engine up to test it. I'll call the tower for permission to take off and we'll be on our way when that comes through. Normally there is no delay in permission for taxiing and just a minute or two for take off permission.

In the Air
If you feel any motion sickness, please let me know right away.

Once airborne, we will start our "Bay Tour" by heading north to San Francisco.
Soon after take off we will see Decru and the Oracle buildings on the right. We will fly by San Francisco International Airport, and over the city. We will fly over the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Angel Island, Treasure Island, and return over the Oakland airport, cross over the San Mateo Bridge and back to San Carlos airport.

Cost
We will all share the cost of the flight (~$120).
